On the other hand, unused storage space can also be offered for short-term rental on the platform, thus contributing to additional added value. The provider of the free storage capacity and the client, i.e. the company looking for storage space, find each other on the platform using a matching algorithm.

Trucksters

On medium and long-distance journeys, logistics are quite inefficient. Currently, one driver drives 9h and then, because of regulations, he needs to stop for 11 hours to rest. This situation produces various problems:

  • Freight security: most of freight thefts occur when trucks are idle
  • Logistic costs: allowances need to be paid for drivers sleeping outside home, and in some cases the need of having 2 drivers per cabin to increase delivery times increases transport costs.
  • Drivers shortage: due to the tough living conditions, there is a huge driver shortage. The International Road Union (IRU) estimates that there are more than 100.000 drivers needed in Europe, and the number is increasing

We optimize the road freight transport industry by connecting trucking companies with on-demand drivers to enable a system of relays. With our platform, one truck driver drives 4,5h and then he switches with another one who is waiting at an exchange point. This way, drivers can drive back home every day, trucks are continuously moving, and shippers can improve transport costs, reduce their stock levels and improve their freight security. Most importantly, drivers can get their personal lifes back.

Searoutes.com is a cloud based route planning and weather routing solution for vessels — Google Maps for ships. We want the best route, available to all — logistics, financials, mariners. Searoutes is a machine- learning-first company, and addresses routing from a novel angle. We use historical data to compute optimum routes and, for a given vessel, the performance impact of weather. Therefore reducing fuel costs, emissions (COx, NOx, SOx), and improving the accuracy of schedules, arrival times and risks for 90% for global trade.

roatel

„roatel“ – this is first of all a combination of the terms „road“ and „hotel“. A roatel is a hotel on the street. In Germany – but also in Europe as a whole – simple but good hotel rooms on and near the motorways are lacking. Even today, around 120,000 drivers sleep in their vehicles every day. The EU mobility package is now intended to make it compulsory for many motorists to stay overnight in a hotel. The founding team of roatel – with years of experience in logistics as well as the establishment and management of nationwide companies – now wants to remedy this situation: In the coming 4 years 300 roatels are to be opened at German motorway service stations and car parks. The roatel is a micro hotel concept. Each hotel unit can be set up compactly, mobilely and variably. It consists of 4 single rooms and can be combined with each other. In this way it is possible to react flexibly to demand and adapt supply. The heart of the concept is a smartphone application with which customers can find, book and pay for a hotel room. They can open the room with their smartphone and use it for other services. In Germany alone, 3 million trucks are registered. Around 400 million toll journeys by domestic trucks and another 100 million by trucks from abroad were registered by the Federal Office for Goods Transport in 2016. Every driver is a potential customer for roatel. The demand is not only limited to freight traffic. Commuters, business people or private travellers can also use a roatel. Found quickly, booked easily, slept well. The EU sees the offer of such adequate overnight accommodation as an essential building block for increasing safety on the roads. Today, unfortunately, too often overtired people drive around. Roatel wants to make a contribution and set standards on the German market as a first mover.

What is our idea … Since 2014 we have been working on the idea to bring full transparency into logistics. For four years we have tried out everything you can imagine. We started with standard GPS trackers and cool software. We developed our own sensors. We tried to convince companies to give us their data so that the world would be a bit better. We tried to convince the shippers and then we concentrated on the logisticians. Everyone has always done everything much better … and yet everyone still complains about the lack of transparency. We’ve jumped on every buzzword and developed intelligent and self-learning algorithms … what haven’t we done?
And the idea of full transparency and an efficient logistics chain is still driving us today. That’s why we went the hard way once again and reinvented ourselves. And baaaam … Now we have not only found the idea but also the right approach.

CargoSteps

We help B2B express and courier forwarders and freight forwarders utilize their excess capacity and enable proactive, real-time cross-company shipment tracking.
95% of vehicles in the passenger car to Sprinter segment of B2B express and courier logistics are returned empty after a shipment has been unloaded. And every dispatcher spends more than 1 hour per day to obtain status updates on current shipments. With the new information flow of CargoSteps (CargoSteps Track & Trace) via web application and API for forwarders and carriers as well as mobile app for drivers, drivers send status updates automatically and in real time from the mobile app to all parties involved. This cross-company work process using CargoSteps enables shipments to be „matched“ with suitable carriers (capacities, routes, times, training courses/certifications, etc.), thus avoiding empty runs (CargoSteps Match + CargoSteps Secure). Currently, larger integrations with dbh Logistics IT AG in CARGO ONLINE and in the TMS of CargoSoft GmbH as well as a large anchor customer not yet to be named are underway.

IMPARGO digitizes and automates the transport processing of freight forwarders and industrial companies. IMPARGO supports small and medium-sized transport service providers with digitization as a counter-model to digital forwarding agencies. The focus is on technology that makes dispatchers more efficient and increases the service level of the transport company. The services are offered in the form of a freemium model (basic version is free of charge – professional services are subject to a charge). The CargoApps from IMPARGO already have 11,000 registrations.

„How ants help us digitize the transportation industry – how TMS becomes TME.“

Status Quo of the Digital Transformation:
Only 15% of all transport companies use Transport Management Software (TMS), resulting in uncoordinated processes and paper chaos in the supply chain. A lack of real-time data on the status of a delivery or a vehicle means that a significant part of the capacity in the transport market remains unused.
With our software solution, we can achieve a comprehensive digitization, as we have implemented the requirements of 45,000 small and medium-sized transport companies (modular expandability, web-based, one system for all processes) – tailored to their financial possibilities.

How do ants help us implement this solution?
We have transferred the division of labour of ants to software development and are developing with over 1000 companies on an OpenSource ERP system. We create synergies instead of building thousands of competing anthills. In this ERP system we have integrated our specially developed TMS modules and created a web-based all-in-one solution especially for the transport industry.

FORWARD is a B2B marketplace for transport logistics and is building the largest carrier network for regional and local transport.

Our platform gives shippers direct access to the most suitable carrier in the network. Our Smartphone App automatically provides them with all the data and references they need to carry out the job.

Our customers no longer have to spend a lot of time searching for available carriers by telephone and receive additional digital functions such as tour status, GPS live tracking, uniform collective invoices and verified scans of freight documents via our platform. In addition, as a freight forwarder with a uniform quality standard, we are liable for all carriers in the network and are a professional contact for all questions regarding transport.

Through network effects and consolidation of journeys from different clients, we offer the best prices for shippers and greater efficiency with fewer empty journeys for carriers. The jury, which is made up of experts from the logistics world, selects from all the applicants those who will receive a place in the start.hub Logistics at the transport logistic trade fair in Munich. The jury’s decision will be announced by 3 May 2019. Each startup that receives a place at the start.hub in Munich at the trade fair will pay a one-off fee of Euro 980. This contribution includes the presence at start.hub Logistics with logo & Co., catering at start.hub and two tickets for the entire duration of the fair.

Pitch on stage

On each day of the fair from 4 to 7 June 2019, the selected start-ups will present themselves on stage at start.hub Logistics as part of a pitch. Every day, a decision is made by the trade fair audience that chooses the startups with the greatest potential for the next day. Although there are fewer and fewer startups on stage every day, they can always present their ideas again with more presentation time. All startups, even those that have been selected out, remain present at start.hub Logistics for the entire duration of the trade fair.

The audience evaluation

The visitors and exhibitors of the fair as well as all external interested parties can submit their evaluation once each day after the pitch via an app online. The voting ends daily at 24.00 hrs. The winning startup will be determined on the morning of the last day of the fair.

The prize for the winner

The winning startup will receive a free full-service package stand of 20m² at transport logistic 2021, a media service in the media of the DVV Media Group worth 10,000 Euros for print ads or online advertising and a one-year job at the Digital Hub Logistics in Hamburg. Payment of benefits in kind is excluded. So is legal recourse.
